- Sony pulls controversial PSP ads

A white woman grappling with a black woman, that's what was Sony PSP ads in the Netherlands which caused many to engage in some grappling of their own, mostly with issues and allegations of racism. Sony has now confirmed that they have yanked the ads and banished them to a mysterious marketing misfire graveyard. The decision was made based on the global reaction to an ad that was largely aimed at a specific country said a Sony representative. The representative also said that, we wish to apologize to those who perceived the advert differently to that intended. Sony will apply greater sensitivity in our selection of campaign imagery and their impact in other countries. One shocking thing was that Sony claims to have only received a single complaint from within the Netherlands. It clear from this that Internet always has a global eye on the moves of a large and popular corporation.

- Sony under fire for "racist" advertising

Sony is in deep controversy with its this ad campaign in Holland, which, as one can see above, depicts a "white PSP" model violently holding the mouth of a "black PSP" model in honor of the launch of its ceramic white PSP. The Company insufficiently defended themselves to GamesIndustry.biz with the following: "The marketing campaign for the launch of the White PSP in the Benelux focuses on the contrast between the Black PSP model and the new Ceramic white PSP model," and "A variety of different treatments have been created as a campaign to either highlight the whiteness of the new model or contrast the black and the white models. Central to this campaign has been the creation of some stunningly photographed images. Two similar ads can be found on Dutch PSP site, and such a concept is still considered to be offensive by many.

Sony has defended its advertisement which some thought smacked of racism. We are of course referring to the commercial which was about the 'ceramic white PSP'. A Sony spokesperson has responded to GamesIndustry.biz that there was no racist message involved but the commercial merely focussed on the difference between the white and black PSPs. "A variety of different treatments have been created as a campaign to either highlight the whiteness of the new model or contrast the black and the white models. Central to this campaign has been the creation of some stunningly photographed imagery, that has been used on large billboards throughout Holland."
