Sony PS3 firmware ver 1.5 supports electronic money

Remember the cashless service from Vodafone ? It was called as the Edy. It allowed or rather allows users to upload 'cash credits' into their accounts which can be later utilised to purchase products in the real world. Valid only in Japan, this e-cash can be used for purchasing from thousands of stores, vending machines, train stations and even taxis. Well, the same Edy has made it to the Playstation 3. The PS3 network in Japan allows you to add, view balance and do every other function possible with Edy a part of the interface for the consoles being sold there.

The Sony Engineers have managed to make this possible with PaSoRi (An external USB FeliCa reader/writer ) perceptably for security. The card reader is compatible with Firmware ver 1.5 and up which will be available for download tommorow in Japan.
