PS3 prices to drop by 2009

Sony_PlayStation_PS3_Cell_chip.jpgSony seems to realise that the sky high prices of the PS3 are definitely not working in its favour. Unfortunately though, their hands are tied as the Cell costs them a bomb to produce. So even if they want to bring down the prices right now, it is just not possible. If you remember, the PS2 initially was quite expensive, but the prices dropped gradually. Yukata Nakagawa says, "When we first offered the PS2, there were no semiconductor companies that were able to make chips for the machine, so we did it ourselves. But now, there are companies that specialize in chip production."

Sony is doing its best to reduce the prices by moving to 45-nanometre circuitry. Hopefully, this will take place, and if it does, then reduction of prices is on the cards for the year 2009. Better late than never, huh?
