- PS3 prices to drop by 2009
Sony seems to realise that the sky high prices of the PS3 are definitely not working in its favour. Unfortunately though, their hands are tied as the Cell costs them a bomb to produce. So even if they want to bring down the prices right now, it is just not possible. If you remember, the PS2 initially was quite expensive, but the prices dropped gradually. Yukata Nakagawa says, "When we first offered the PS2, there were no semiconductor companies that were able to make chips for the machine, so we did it ourselves. But now, there are companies that specialize in chip production." - February 14, 2007 - 7:26 PM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)
- PS3 to release down under
T
his March 23rd, the kangaroos down under will witness the release of Sony's PS3. I are not sure if the australians are gonna to like the price tag much, as they will have to shell out a whopping AUD$999.95 (NZD$1195.95) to get one of the units. It is the 60GB version we are talking about, and the 20GB system will not be available. Somehow, I have a feeling that the PS3 units are not going to be flying off the shelves. However, maybe the following list of PS3 games could help:- January 30, 2007 - 4:47 PM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)
- European release dates for the 60GB PS3
Sony's PS3 has fallen flat on its face so far. What Sony need now is to make some noise before the European launch of the console which is scheduled for 23rd March. And they are doing just that, but for all the wrong reasons. Firstly, we are all aware of the sky high prices of the high end version, and for those of you who aren't aware, it will be available for 425 pounds in England and 599 euros in the rest of europe. The europeans are being taking for a ride, wouldn't you say? Another black mark is that they will be releasing only the 60GB system. People say it's purely to rake in some (well, lots) of extra bucks.- January 25, 2007 - 4:50 PM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)
- Sony PS3 firmware ver 1.5 supports electronic money

Remember the cashless service from Vodafone ? It was called as the Edy. It allowed or rather allows users to upload 'cash credits' into their accounts which can be later utilised to purchase products in the real world. Valid only in Japan, this e-cash can be used for purchasing from thousands of stores, vending machines, train stations and even taxis. Well, the same Edy has made it to the Playstation 3. The PS3 network in Japan allows you to add, view balance and do every other function possible with Edy a part of the interface for the consoles being sold there.- January 23, 2007 - 10:22 AM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)
- Which is the quietest next generation system?
Have you ever wondered which of the next generation consoles is the noisest? I hadn't, but somebody has wondered about it enough to run a few tests to erase any doubts people might have. The first test is the location test. The tester believed that maybe the location had something to do with the noise, as when the consoles turns hot, the fans turn on to reduce the heat. However, he didn't quite get the chance to move around his consoles to conduct this test. But, let's move on, there are other methods.- January 19, 2007 - 10:14 AM | Related Entries - Nintendo Wii | PS3 | Xbox 360 | Comments (0)

- Europe sees incredibly high PS3 prices
We've talked about how the PS3 will be available is Europe for a whopping £425 (which is $838) this March, and yes as a way of making more money, only the 60GB version will be on sale initially. This time however, we can't blame Sony as this ridiculously high price was set by retailers. Sony seems to be getting punches from every direction at the moment.- January 19, 2007 - 9:59 AM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)

- Sony promoting Nintendo?
Sony has really out-done itself this time. Wasn't falling flat on its face after the launch of the PS3 enough? Hasn't Sony had enough of widely popular belief that it has lost to Nintendo's Wii? Apparently not. This time they have gone as far as to promote the Wii on their own site! Just because you don't have a description for the PS2 version of Metal slug doesn't mean you advertise the Wii one! Don't believe us? Take a look at the following image.- January 19, 2007 - 9:48 AM | Related Entries - Nintendo Wii | PS2 | PS3 | Comments (0)

- Prices for PS3 in Europe are confirmed
Apparently PS3's retail release is on 23rd March, and the price of a 60GB unit is going to be 425 pounds, and this figured was quoted some time back by Ray Maguire, head of Sony UK. This isn't official news yet, however confirmation from Sony is expected in the next week. What strikes us odd is that Sony won't be releasing the 20GB system in UK at first. Is this another one of Sony's money making schemes?- January 18, 2007 - 9:36 AM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)

- Nearly nude girls selling their PS3's
Everybody knows that your chance to cash in on the PS3's release have ended a long time back. Nobody is buying them at the store price, let alone the insanely high prices ebay vendors are demanding. However, there are still some clueless girls out there who think that if they show some skin and play dress up, their PS3 units will sell for ridiculously high prices. Along with these auctions, some sellers list hilarious FAQ questions like "Does the girl come with the system?", and the answer is "No. Please don't ask, you're not being original." Oh, but you certainly are being original with getting half naked girls to sell the PS3's. Actually, wait..this is a really old formula. Do check out the following pictures of these crazy chics.- January 18, 2007 - 7:43 AM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)

- Difference between Wii and PS3
A non-techie friend of mine recently consulted me on the getting the right console. I immediately launched into a tirade of advantages and dis-advantages of each system with what the future may hold, the sales figures, the fan opinions, the games available. After pausing to catch my breath; he asked me, "So, which one should I go for". Rather than strangle him with my bare hands, I decided to explain things to him in this much easier manner.

- Analyst Group Nomura Security predict low sales for the PS3
PS3's sales future really seems to be trouble, and even Japanese Analyst Group Nomura Security seems to be catching on to this. One of the major reasons for the PS3 being something of a flop is the low holiday sales observed in North America. It seems that in the month of December when the sales figures are at their peak, Sony's PS3 has managed to sell 490,700 units. We wish the sales figures would be at least half way as staggering as the price figures. Of the 1 million units shipped to America, only 69% have been sold as of now, and this probably also includes those units being taken back to the stores.- January 16, 2007 - 6:12 AM | Related Entries - PS3 | Comments (0)

- The Godfather on PS3 and Wii
EA's Godfather makes it way to the next gen consoles: PS3 and Wii. Godfather : The Don's edition is planned for the PS3, whereas the Godfather: Blackhand Edition is aimed at the Wii. This certainly is some fantastic news for Godfather fans. These new versions are not really brand new, but they will contain much more content than the previous games. The PS3 version will have extended gameplay in the form of “The Corleone Expansion Pack.” At the Wii's end, the game will be redesigned to make maximum use of the Wiimote.- January 15, 2007 - 7:42 AM | Related Entries - Nintendo Wii | PS3 | Comments (0)

- Nintendo Wii beats the Playstation 3 black and blue

Sony launched the Playstation 3 with a lot of fan fare. They had good reason to, the Playstation 3 could very well mean the difference between salvation and starvation for the troubled Sony executives. Unforunately well after the launch, it seems that the latter holds true for them. Sony's brand image as well as its profitability are both taking hits, especially after the exploding battery episode and there were high hopes from the Playstation 3 to redeem the company. However close competitor Nintendo has allowed Sony no relief on this front either. Despite being launched by almost 3 weeks after the Playstation, the Nintendo Wii has managed to clock up 1.14 million units in Japan. Comparatively, in the Japanese markets (which are considered as extremely important by console makers) the Playstation 3 managed to just reach the 534,336 mark. This was significant since Sony was positively hopeful of easily making it to the 1 million mark as well.- January 13, 2007 - 3:37 AM | Related Entries - Nintendo Wii | PS3 | Comments (0)
