Nintendo dominates the gaming market

Nintendo.jpgI recently had a chat with a friend about which of the new consoles has an edge over the others. He said Nintendo's Wii by far, and I pretty much scoffed. But today I read some interesting information that is going to make me eat my own words. The Japanese Giant is clearly dominating the market as of now. It appears that Nintendo has sold about 55 percent of all video gaming consoles in November (wow, what the hell happened to PS3?).

The Wii was launched on 19th November, and within a week of its launch, the Wii sold an astounding half a million consoles. Oh and this is considering sales only in the United States. Besides this, a million Wii systems are set to be availabe in the United States by the end of the year. This might include spot shortages in a few places, but hey hardly anyone is complaining (unless you are unlucky enough to be in that location).

And the Wii is not the only hot selling item on Nintendo's menu. The DS has sold over 920,000 units and Game Boy(R) advance shows a figure of 642,000. This Japanese gaming Giant must be out celebrating in the sushi bars for the 2.1 million video gaming systems it has sold out of the 3.9 million systems purchased in November. And to top this Zelda : Twilight Princess has been successful in selling over 412,000 copies. And this figure has almost match that of Super mario 64 of decades ago. A pretty impressive achievement huh?

I think Nintendo's Wii had a slight (read : insanely huge) edge over Sony's PS3 due to the relatively affordable prices of the Wii and Zelda.
