KDND fires 10 employees following Strange's death

10753114.jpgJennifer Strange from California died a couple of days back due to water intoxication, and yes you are reading the cause of death right. How did this happen? She participated in KDND's 'Hold Your Wee for a WIi' contest, in the hope of winning Nintendo's new console for her family. The contest required contestants to drink 8 ounces of water in 2 minutes and then repeat the same after 10 a 10 minutes break without heading to rest rooms. But the seemingly harmless contest resulted in the tragic death of Ms. Strange. Initially, the radio had not done much except offer a few kind words to the grieving family. However, now KDND has cancelled the show 'Morning Rave', and fired 10 employees. Losing their jobs is little punishment for being careless enough to cost someone their life, but hey..it is something.

Those present during the contest say that Strange had possibly consumed almost two gallons of water. After losing the contest, she called in sick to work, And the next she was seen, she was dead. William Strange, Jennifer's husband issued a statement which reads: "Friday, Jennifer was just her bright, usual self. She was trying to win something for her family that she thought we would enjoy. ... We miss her dearly. She was my girl."

What makes this worse is that a nurse called the station to warn them of the danger involved in the contest. However, nobody paid much heed to this warning. Apparently the waiver that the contestants had to sign is quite meaningless and the station definitely shares some responsibilty.

Lucy Davidson, the winner of this ridiculous contest has stated, "I feel horrible, you know, because you don't think water's going to kill you. You're having fun at the radio station trying to win a little contest. You don't think it's going to turn deadly."
