Super Mario - a terrorist? Ohio believes so

On April 1, five teenage girls, from Ravenna, Ohio, decided to play a general prank. They made cardboard replicas of the "question mark" boxes which all players know are to be hit for coins / points. Seventeen of these replicas were then hung around town, pretty good work at that, as the photographs show. We dont know what kind or reaction the girls expected, but it certainly could not be anything like the one they got. Residents were convinced that the suspicious packages contained explosive devices or something similar to wipe out their little community and called in the bomb squad. Kind of funny that terrorists would actually go through the trouble of getting a bomb and then highlight it by putting it out in gift wrapped paper, where every one would be sure to look. The boxes were wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them. The Bomb squad said that they even checked for radiation and chemical warfare agents, none of which were detected.

The Police though did not think it funny, and the girls now face criminal charges. The girls said they found an Internet site that included step-by-step instructions for creating replicas of blocks featured in the game. Its great that the residents were pro-active, but the police should also take the matter in the right spirit by letting the girls go with a warning.
