Microsoft planning to beat iPod with musical Portable Xbox?

Could be if what Businessweek says is true. The Digital Music market has not been kind to Microsoft, Apple has taken the lead and is maintaining it over all its competitors. Then again, Microsoft was never really in this game and no other company knows how to trounce competition the way Microsoft does.

The DS lite, everyone knew was coming. What nobody would know is that Nintendo would quietly announce the lite without any publicity or gung ho. The "DS Lite" which is intially to be launched in Japan (as usual) on March 2nd is a redesigned and compact version of the DS.

The World Rally Championship from Spike has recognition from the FIA and as with any game that earns the official recognition from the sport; WRC takes you as close to the real thing as possible. Rather than hire a celebrity and pay sky high costs for a 30 second slot for prime time on major T.V. channels, marketing executives are finding it easier to promote their products in the content. The content usually varied in between movies and soaps. The latest to get entangled in this advertising world are games.

“Due to the soaring costs of developing video games, the tremendous reach of video games, extended exposure to ads when playing video games, and integration with on-line commerce, advergaming will be a common fixture in video games,” said David Wanetick, Managing Director of The Wall Street Transcript.

Tetris now touch controlled as well as multi player thanks to Wi-Fi enabled Nintendo DS


The long blue bar. The yellow block. And those darn zigzag things whose images stay on your brain. These familiar Tetris shapes started a generation of video game fans. Now Nintendo is putting a new spin on the classic with Tetris DS, available March 20 exclusively for Nintendo DSTM, which incorporates the use of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service.

Hard-core and casual gamers alike became obsessed with the original. Tetris DS builds on that emotional attachment by combining the original game with new types of game play that could only be possible on Nintendo DS.

Diner Dash goes mobile

Prince of Persia Movie by Jerry Bruck Bruckheimer ?

In a recent interview, Jerry Bruckheimer mentions that he is considering producing the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie. "In February, we start a picture called ‘Deja Vu’ in New Orleans, which I think will be the first movie being shot in New Orleans since Katrina with Denzel Washington playing the lead and Tony Scott directing. He did ‘Top Gun’ with me and ‘Enemy of the State.’ Then we have a thing called ‘Prince of Persia,’ which is a big video game, that we’re considering doing.". No Director has been announced but Jordan Mechner, who wrote the script for both the Sands of Time and Two Thrones video games, is doing the screenplay according IMDB.

Adult Studio Picks Blu-ray

There were already been pornographic titles announced for HD-DVD at CES, but Digital Playground is the first adult film studio to publicly align itself with one of the next-generation disc formats - and they've picked Blu-ray. What convinced Digital Playground to pick Blu-Ray over HD-DVD is the promised install base from PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray's security functions. If the Blu-Ray prevails Microsoft may also launch an adapter for the Xbox 360.

Multiplayer cell phone game Kodo - deemed to be the next rage

Swedish game developer Jadestone is today happy to announce the release of Kodo from its confinement. Following extensive research and evaluation, this digital life form is now deemed to be sufficiently controllable to meet the public. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to contain the Kodo effect. People are already crowding around mobiles to eat their opponents before they get eaten themselves.

Using just one button each player controls his Kodo in this fast paced game that's all about being the last survivor. The game is the world's first where there can be as many simultaneous players as there are available buttons on the phone. With more than six players things start to become difficult, but the theoretical limit on some phone models is a staggering 26 players!

UK Games market crosses new record

The UK interactive entertainment software market has hit a new all time high in 2005, according to ELSPA (Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association) as it reveals annual performance figures today.

2005 was a transition year for the industry - the traditionally fallow period before the launch of next-generation hardware - and was generally expected to be a period of slowing software sales. However, ELSPA has announced record sales of interactive entertainment software across all formats totalling £1.35 billion, an increase of 0.7% per cent over 2004's record figures.

Philips re-invents boardgames with the Entertaible


The Entertaible is a wooden table which comes integrated with a 30" touch sensitive display. This is probably the way that board games of the future will be played. Thanks to the entertaible cheating becomes impossible and scores can also be calculated on the fly. Philips' idea is that you load up games in the table and use a set of specialized pawns and dice to play a whole new kind of board game and videogame hybrid.
